saving, updating TOC, track changes acceptance, rejection all work fine. However, when I try to edit the Header or Footer, the CPU goes to 100% (actually winword 99%) and I'm unsuccessful in completeing my header/footer changes. Running XP Pro, no mapped drives, 2gig ram, Office 2007 sp1, all the office components are that if you save to the older version for review by others that you revert back to 2007 format to continue editing.Sounds like you may have found a bug with legacy compatibility when working from Word 2007. Perhaps Servicepack 1 has resolved the issue. Terry
When I use a clients Office Word system and add via header / footer a page x of y when document is printed it shows as page 1 of 1, page 2 of 2, page 3 of 3 etc. When I view document in print preview is shows it as correct i.e. page 1 of 3, page 2 of 3, page 3 of 3. that it could be something with my wireless home network, or is that farfetched?I'm having the exact same problem, but never figured out that it was only working on the first word in a line. The rest of it will not work - I am doing medical transcription using a large set of auto texts, and it's not working. Frustrating.Umm, this would have to be tested using built-in AutoText entries, since user-created entries would not be available when starting Word with the /a switch.I should have stipulated this - thanks for adding the test should be using the built-in entries and

Any fixes? What happens when you paste?I have had the same problem with the paste function on the clipboard not working, and it started after i was copying from Publisher and pasting to Word. Do you know of any fix for this. Not unless you can answer the question: "What happens when you paste?"Nothing happens when i click on the drop-down "paste" from the clipboard, and nothing happens when I click on the item in clipboard. Terry Farrell - Word MVP I have templates that make use of headers and footers for name, date, etc.. Recently, however, every time Word starts, it does not show the entire page with the header and footer. The only way I can show that part is by going to [view] and [header / footer]. This selects that text and increases the range of my page view. But for documents where I don't want stuff up there, aka Normal.dot by default, Word still does not show my header / footer area. The first bit of the page I can see is where my text cursor is. It's worked fine for a year, and just
My password to open Word documents on XP is not working. I've tried typing in all caps, sentence case, and lower case. How can I disable or override the password on Word files?Sorry to say but you can't. If you have lost, forgotten, or for some other reason are unable to open a password protected document, that's pretty much it. You can hire one of many agencies available and actively posted on the web to open them for you for a fee. jesse

I am using Microsoft Office 2003 and recently noticed that the autotext options of the header/footer control are missing. I am talking about the dropdown control on the left side of the header/footer control bar that has options like file names, author, page x of y, etc. All I am getting is a blank field with no entries. The question is how do I fix this? The usual reason for this is that you have saved a document in or as Normal.dot. See http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/BlankDocNotBlank.htm

I wonder if somebody can help me. The keyboard on my laptop is not working properly. All the keys respond except the number 8, letter i,k, and m. Since these keys are in one vertical line, does it means something is wrong with the keybord or the system? When I press mentioned keys, nothing happens. I does this on all Office applications (Word, Exel ) Please help. Thanks a lot CarlosMost likely the keyboard or the keyboard driver if this is happening in all apps. Have you tested using a different keyboard?
After the header/footer edit dialog box is dismissed, there is a blank in the document where the dialog box was. The area appears to be a Z-Order problem as the blank area can carry over to other windows or to the desktop.See "OFFXP: Toolbar in Office Applications Cause Rectangular Area of Computer Screen Do Not Refresh" at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=817185
When I switched from wp51 to word, the header/footer toolbar had tab stops. I did not do this - person who worked here had done it. Now I want to remove them permanently but I can't figure it out.The tabs in Headers are Footers are part of the Header and Footer Styles. You need to change the format of the Styles to remove the tabs permanently.
the don't check spelling box, copied text to new document tried again still no luck, closed word reopened tried again. HELP!!!!Is spelling not working at all--or just for this particular text? What happens if you type fresh text in a brand new document. Does spelling Work there? From what you're saying, I assume you've verified Tools - Options - Spelling & Grammar, and ensured that Hide Spelling Errors in this Document is not checked, and Check spelling as you type is checked. What happens if you start Word in safe mode? Press Ctrl as Word is starting, and
