If I am working on two WORD documents and minimize both AND then try to maximize one of those docu. both documents disappear. When I open the documents in the document folder, it states "Auto-Recovery" on the left of my screen. Obviously, if the doc. was not saved just before the minimizaiton, I lose my work. I have tried Detect and repair, but that did not help. Any suggestions. When I have two or more docs (they can be blank pages even) minimized, Word 2003 closes and sends me to the desktop when maximizing--no error message or warning to save--the docs are recovered when I reopen Word. I am editing a template and the following 2 messages pop up frequently without any action on my part. What causes these messages to appear, and what can I do to prevent them? "You cannot save while the file is in use by another process. Try saving the file with a new name." "Saving the AutoRecovery file is postponed for "filename".this problem. Microsoft references that you can't use a % mark in the filename but I have found that - also causes a problem. Possibly other marks too. I'm using Word 2003, on XP Professional. Whenever I switch between 2 open Word docs, Word shuts down. No error message appears, the docs and program just disappear. When I reopen Word, my docs have been autorecovered. Doesn't seem to cause any harm, but it's getting annoying. Any suggestions?See “WD: Word Quits Unexpectedly When Selecting a Document from the Windows Taskbar” http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=555169After removing the hw recog tool (and I had to restart the computer), the issue seems to be resolved. When multiple word documents are opened, word 2003 crashes when minimizing and restoring word windows multiple times, or switching among these word windows. The problem can be repeated for word 2003, but not for Excel 2003 (didn't check PowerPoint etc.) This issue seems starting after SP2 installed for Windows XP Pro. (not 100% sure). Event logs are clean without any hints. Removed SP2 for Windows XP, it doesn't help. Re-insatlled SP2 again, it's still the same problem. Any ideas? Hi, when my user tries to save a document using 'save as' something causes word to spontaneously shut down, not saving any changes to the document. Can anyone let me know why this is, and how to fix it? This is not limited to one document, but happens periodically to lots of different ones! Thanks!!The troubleshooting steps at http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/ProbsOpeningWord.htm will get to the causes of most Word crashes.
Sometimes when I click on Word 2003 task buttons in the taskbar (bottom of screen with the Start button on the left) everything disappears, and I have to reopen Word and use autosave to avoid losing data. This has ceased to be amusing. I'd really appreciate any help, I feel like my 100,000 word SF novel may be in jeopardy.See http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=555169 "WD: Word Quits Unexpectedly When Selecting a Document from the Windows Taskbar".

that causes Word to crash, and have you tried any of the other methods? Thanks for taking the time to answer my post. I work at a helpdesk and I'm trying to help a user. new or existing documents with Format Bullets and Numbers. This causes Word to stop and send a message to Microsoft. There is no meaningful message with the error. When I started Word in safe mode, Format Bullets and Numbers worked. I tried it again in normal mode after that and got the same error. This started just last week. How do I recover?Safe mode uses factory default settings, that is, current registry settings are ignored, and add-ins as well as normal.dot settings are bypassed. In other words, the fact that Word works in Safe mode indicates an error with the registry, with

I have replaced Normal.dot but this did not fix the problem. Yes I have a document that causes Word to hang under a variety of cicumstances including Save As, Printing, and selecting large areas of text. The doc. is based on a template and I have many other documents based on the same template which exhibit none of these problems - this particular doc. is just evil. There are no macros, one graphic (inserted from .jpg file). I am up to date with NAV etc. so I don't believe there's anything here other than some formatting or ??? that is causing the doc. to hang Word. Any suggestions are welcome. Ps. Does MS have a support protocol
open, while others are OK, and in all documents, going into 'Page Setup' or pressing the down arrow on the 'Fonts' box causes Word to hang for minutes, although it does eventually respond correctly. Everything was working normally until a about week ago, and the problem was not connected to any activity such as installing new S/W etc, as far as I know. It is also significant that Excel is similarly afflicted. Any ideas greatly appreciated, before I rebuild the PC!Have you cleared out temp files?Yes, I ran Disk Cleanup, which cleared out loads of old temp files, but I
doc, sometimes I just get a white page then when I click I get a "not responding" error message in the top bar. Also, If I do get it to "hook up", then I type a doc and try to "Save As.." it bogs down, kind of locks up and I have to click all over the place to get the error message to get it to close down and reopen it. Then, I have to either retype the entire doc or it saved a portion of it and I have to retype the rest. Also, it seems if I rush it, Word doesn't want to respond. Heeeellp!! In Word, click on File | Open, browse to your file, click on the little black downward-pointing triangle at the right end of the Open button, and choose Open and Repair.Open and Repair opened the document with the correct formatting but the document still caused Word to hang. I tried Save As with a new name - same thing. I then repaired again and copied the text to a new file and that seems OK. While not ideal, it's a workaround that I can live with for the
crash. We can work with these documents just fine. We can save them. It's only *exiting* that causes Word to crash and attempt a recovery of the document (which never recovers them as we experience the same problem with the recovered document). Now, here's the weird part - some old documents created using this template from last year are crashing Word, too, also on Exit, but not all. In fact the majority do not. What is the reason for this crash and is it possible to recover the template? I know it's not likely having read the info on recovering templates, but since the
