Once I replaced it with normal.dot Word opens OK. But I still have the search problem with Explorer. I don't even have to enter anyting into the search field and WIN Office 2003 trys to configure something and then I get the explorer.exe error and it closes. I know this is not the correct newgroup for that question, so I'll repost it there incase no one comes up with anything here. Chris
this template, I get the error message "There is not enough memory to display or print the picture". I can save the document and work with it in Word, but when I use a third party counting software (Sylcount by Sylvan Software)it creates a problem. This software interfaces with Word, opens each document, counts it, and then closes it. It can only count one document because when it closes the document, the error message comes up and the counting program stops running. And then, just like you said Word creates another Normal.dot file. But the next time I go to open Word it takes about 3 minutes. Word opens any file with all text selected (highlighted). Cannot edit other than format. Tried to re-install office, didn't work. After many attempts and restores, I got it back to normal until I opened a PDF. Adobe scrolls sluggish, then when I go back to a Word file, it is back to problems. I think it is related to Adobe somehow, possibly flash. 2002 on two identical computers which I believe are setup about the same way. On one computer word opens and closes in 2 to 3 seconds. On the other computer it takes 10 to 11 seconds. When word opens if you hit the open folder the screen goes blank for a second then comes back with the open folder box. I am running the same anti virus software on both also. We are having a new problem with Word 2003. When you click on Word file icon to open the file, instead of opening the file in Word as is usual, Word opens but with a blank grey screen. To open the file, you have to File>Open and then browse to the file. Does anyone know why Word is doing this and how to fix it? I am using Word2000 9.0 and have never had an issue before. Now, when the program opens, all seems fine; but when I go to open a document from the drop down lists, the whole program closes.
